Welcome to Erica from America, the ultra-distance athlete (and also, to be clear, the amateur ultra-distance athlete). I swim and I run. I also used to bike, which means that I have done some triathlons in the past. But my triathlon days are long behind me. For that matter, my ultra-distance days are behind me. I joke around with people that I have retired from the ultra-distance stuff. In 2010, after 6 marathons, 3 ironman triathlons, the Comrades Marathon (which should really be renamed, Comrades Ultramarathon since it is 56 miles), and seven long distance swims including the Triple Crown (the English Channel, the Swim Around Manhattan and the Catalina Channel), I needed a break.
At the time, I thought I was fully retiring from the big stuff. But now, after five years of “retirement” from the long stuff, I think it might be time to start thinking about the next big thing.
Stay tuned….
